Silverpond is looking for a fun and friendly web designer.
We’re a group of software engineers looking for someone who can incorporate a knowledge of design into our web and mobile applications. While we’re not trained in design, each one of us is opinionated and would love to engage in discussions about design. Since we’re a small studio, it’s important you know how to pick up new web skills quickly, get your hands dirty and get things done.
You’ll be working with three software engineers (one based in Russia), and a salesperson/project manager/general all-rounder (that’s me) on client work. The small open-plan office is in the Melbourne CBD. We have flexible working hours, so you can start when you want and work your 8 hour day—so long as you’re productive. We’re a tight-knit group that enjoys working in a collaborative and informal style. Each member has their own area of responsibility, and we trust each other to make decisions that make sense. You’ll often hear in-depth debates and participate in constructive conflicts as we’re committed to producing the best software possible. We share what we learn, and expect you to be continuously learning new things.
You’ll be responsible for designing user interfaces with the client and the team as well as ensuring the final product adheres to this design at delivery.
Regarding the design phase, we’re expecting you to be able to work with html/css/javascript to bring your designs to life as a prototype and/or as the final product. While you need to be able to articulate a vision, you won’t need to create the artwork as we have designers we work with who can do so if needed. You won’t be expected to come up with the branding / logos / print work etc.
We regularly deliver the product throughout the lifecycle of the project. Every time we deliver, we do an internal review with the team, and a review with the client. You’ll be expected to ensure the product meets the original design so an eye for detail is a must.
To apply, please email us at jobs@silverpond.com.au with the subject line: “Web Designer: I love #{insert favourite designer here}”. Attach your CV and a very short cover letter telling us which designer has been the biggest influence on your designs and a link to your portfolio.
This will be a permanent role, so freelancers and remote workers probably shouldn’t apply.
Also for the recruiters: please don’t contact us.
